Kali ini, saya ingin kontribusi dalam mengedit video kelompok dan mendapat tugas untuk mengedit intro mandarin untuk proyek uprak kami. Saya sudah lama tidak mengedit video, ditambah lagi dengan kebutuhan untuk subtitling yang unik. Pada post ini, saya akan membagi pengalaman saya ketika mengedit video ini 🙂
Setelah semua video terkumpul, saya mulai beraksi. Saya telah lama tidak menggunakan Premiere Pro untuk kebutuhan kelompok, jadi saya masih ragu-ragu :). Video demi video ditambahkan ke timeline. Oops, tampaknya sudah melebihi batas bagian intro Mandarin, yaitu 2 menit, menjadi sekitar 2 menit 30 detik.
Pertama, saya mencoba untuk mengubah speed seperti normal pada Premiere Pro dengan opsi “maintain audio pitch”. Tetapi, ada satu hal yang tidak saya sukai, yaitu suara terasa aneh. Suara terasa seperti berbeda posisi dengan asli, seakan terkena efek bass boosted. Ah, tantangan baru. Saya menemukan sebuah cara untuk mengakali, yaitu dengan membiarkan menjadi high pitched, kemudian menambahkan efek Pitch Shifter pada audio. Masalah selesai, tampaknya.
Tantangan selanjutnya muncul ketika saya membuat subtitles. Disitulah saya mulai mengeluh. Subtitling pada Premiere Pro agak aneh. Setiap kali memilih elemen lain pada timeline, saya harus scroll down hingga subtitle terakhir untuk dapat mengedit yang terbaru. 😐
Selain itu, tantangan selanjutnya adalah… bagaimana untuk membuat subtitle yang baik dan benar? Dari situ saya mencari-cari di Google panduan pembuatan subtitle. Saya menemukan panduan yang menarik oleh BBC. https://bbc.github.io/subtitle-guidelines/. Panduan yang cukup menarik. Pengalaman pertama kali saya membuat subtitles.
Itulah sekilas tantangan, pengalaman, dan pelajaran yang saya dapatkan dari proses ini.
Akhirnya, proses editing telah selesai beberapa hari yang lalu sejak post ini diterbitkan. Nantikan hasil video akhirnya 😀
This time, I decided I’d like to contribute to my group by helping edit videos. I got the job to edit the mandarin intro. It’s been a while I haven’t edited videos, with the added challenge of subtitling it. In this post, I’d like to share my experience editing this part of the video 🙂
After all of the videos are shot, I decided to start going. It’s been a while I haven’t used Premiere Pro for these purposes, hence I’m somewhat hesitant. I started adding video by video to the timeline. Oops, apparently we’ve exceeded the mandarin intro limit, which is about 2 minutes. Our clips we’re too long, we were at around 2 minutes 30 seconds.
First, I tried to counteract by changing the speed as usual in Premiere to shorted clips with the option “mantain audio pitch”. But, one odd thing kept happening. The audio is complete junk afterwards. Felt like a bass-boosted audio coming through water pipelines. Ah yes, another problem to solve. Apparently, I found a way to solve it. It is to speed the clip up, and apply Pitch Shifter onto the audio clip afterwards. First problem solved.
Next problem that I experienced was when making subtitles. That’s where I started experiencing pain. Subtitling in Premiere Pro is weird. Every time you mis-select an element in the timeline, I have to scroll back down to be able to edit the latest subtitles. 😐
Another hurdle was… how does one make good subtitles? I’ve done some google searches, and I stumbled upon a nifty guide. It’s the BBC subtitle guidelines. https://bbc.github.io/subtitle-guidelines/. Interesting guidelines. This is my first time writing subtitles, and it has guided me a lot through the process.
