Untuk drama uprak kolaborasi ini, kelompok kami mengambil tema kebenaran. Drama kami berjudul “Searching for Truth In A World Of Misinformation” yang menceritakan tentang 3 selebriti yang terlibat oleh skandal dimana mereka mendapat banyak kebencian karena skandal itu, padahal berita tersebut belum terbukti kebenarannya. Kemudian terdapat seorang jurnalis bernama Cass Dawson yang hatinya tergerak untuk membantu masyarakat sadar bahwa tidak semua informasi yang didapat merupakan kebenaran dengan cara membuat artikel. Artikel tersebut kemudian viral dan masyarakat mulai sadar dan belajar untuk menjadi pribadi yang lebih baik. Drama kami ini terinspirasi dari banyak cerita nyata yang dialami oleh selebriti-selebriti di zaman sekarang ini, mudah tersebarnya hoax, dan juga perjuangan pahlawan nasional Douwes Dekker.
Untuk menyelesaikan uprak ini, kelompok kami membagi tugas sesuai dengan kemampuan dan bidangnya masing-masing. Saya (Shannon) dan Alicia bertugas sebagai properti designer, Renata dan Jessica sebagai choreographer, Nathan dan Stanley sebagai admin website, William sebagai video editor, Judah dan Theophila sebagai translator. Tetapi tugas-tugas kami tidak terbatas pada bagian kami masing-masing saja. Apabila ada anggota kelompok lain yang kesusahan, tentunya kami harus saling membantu. Proses pembuatan video ini dimulai dengan membuat script terlebih dahulu. Script ini juga tidak hanya dikerjakan oleh 1 orang, melainkan kami membagi tugas per scene agar scriptnya cepat jadi. Awalnya kami tidak menggunakan tema kebenaran, melainkan hidup yang berharga. Namun naskah yang kami gunakan untuk tema hidup yang berharga tidak di acc oleh pak Widodo. Sehingga kami memutuskan untuk merombak ulang naskah dari awal. Kami berulang kali berdiskusi via discord call untuk membahas mengenai tugas-tugas apa yang harus diselesaikan, bagaimana progress script, bagaimana jalan ceritanya, jinglenya, dsb. Setelah berhari-hari berdiskusi, kami mengkonsultasikan script kepada guru yang bersangkutan dan ketika sudah di acc, kami langsung melaksanakan rekaman. Rekaman ini ada yang kami laksanakan secara online maupun offline. Tetapi tentunya kami sudah melaksanakan tes antigen dan tetap taat protokol kesehatan saat syuting berlangsung. Di samping itu, Renata dan Jessica juga sudah menyiapkan jingle dan lagu yang dipakai ( tentunya sudah dikonsultasikan juga ). Sedangkan Nathan dan Stanley juga sudah mulai men setup website. Kami pun mulai latihan senam via zoom dan juga mulai rekaman bagian individu, baik untuk perkenalan Mandarin maupun drama. Setelah semua anggota telah merekam dan mengupload rekaman individunya, maka kami tinggal menunggu proses editing dari tim editor.
Saya sendiri berperan sebagai Ivy di dalam drama ini. Ivy adalah salah satu netizen yang mudah menghakimi seseorang melalui sebuah berita tanpa mencari tahu kebenarannya terlebih dahulu. Dalam drama ini, Ivy melontarkan kebencian terhadap ketiga seleb yang terkena skandal. Namun, setelah diberitahu oleh Krystal bahwa berita tersebut adalah hoax, ia sadar akan kesalahannya dan menjadikan peristiwa tersebut sebagai pelajaran agar tidak terulang lagi. Kesan pertama yang saya dapatkan ketika memerankan Ivy yaitu saya teringat akan banyaknya netizen di sosial media seperti Tiktok, Instagram, dan Twitter yang mudah sekali menghakimi seorang public figure. Saya sendiri melihat netizen seperti Ivy ini sebagai seseorang yang pengecut karena mereka hanya berani melontarkan kebencian dibalik sebuah akun. Saya juga seringkali menemukan netizen-netizen seperti Ivy di kolom komentar portal berita korea seperti pann. Netizen disana seringkali mengomentari dan mengkritik ( yang tidak membangun ) artis-artis dengan penuh kebencian. Padahal mereka tidak berhak untuk mencampuri urusan orang lain, apalagi sampai mengutarakan kebencian.
Sedangkan tokoh utama yang bernama Cass Dawson di dalam cerita kami, menurut saya sangat menginspirasi bagi kita semua untuk berani memperjuangkan kebenaran. Meskipun Cass mengetahui apa resiko yang akan dia terima saat mempublish artikel tentang kebenaran skandal akan 3 selebriti itu, ia tetap melakukannya karena ia sendiri tahu berada dalam ketidakadilan, miskonsepsi, dan menerima banyak kebencian dari rakyat itu terasa sangat tidak enak.
Dari sisi keagamaan, pesan yang bisa saya dapatkan dari tokoh Ivy yaitu sebaiknya kita tidak menghakimi seseorang hanya dari sebuah berita karena kita tidak tahu kebenaran dibalik berita tersebut. Bisa jadi berita tersebut adalah hoax, dan walaupun berita itu benar adanya, kita tidak berhak untuk menghakimi mereka. Yang bisa kita lakukan hanyalah memberikan kritik yang membangun, bukan kebencian. Setiap orang pasti mempunyai alasan untuk melakukan sesuatu dan kita tidak berhak untuk melontarkan kebencian karena keputusannya. Seperti pepatah “don’t judge a book by its cover”, sudah seharusnya kita jangan menilai bobot atau nilai seseorang dari suatu hal atau penampilan luarnya saja. Sebelum menghakimi orang lain, sebaiknya kita bercermin terlebih dahulu, bagaimana diri kita sendiri. Itulah yang dikatakan Paus Fransiskus. Yang terpenting adalah menjaga diri agar senantiasa hidup dalam kebenaran Tuhan dan bukan kebenaran diri sendiri yang dipengaruhi oleh kebenaran dunia. Dengan demikian, kita tidak akan menghakimi orang lain dan juga tidak akan membicarakan kesalahan orang lain sebab kita sendiri tahu bahwa kita belum bersih dan sesuai dengan kebenaran Tuhan. Selain itu, Tuhan Yesus juga telah mengutarakan mengenai ujaran kebencian di Alkitab. Kebencian adalah racun yang menghancurkan seseorang dari dalam, menghasilkan kepahitan yang menggerogoti hati dan pikiran kita. Inilah sebabnya mengapa Alkitab mengatakan kepada kita untuk tidak membiarkan “akar pahit” tumbuh di hati kita (Ibr 12:15).
Sedangkan, nilai yang bisa kita ambil dari Ivy dan keseluruhan dari drama ini adalah tidak seharusnya kita membenci orang lain hanya berdasarkan apa yang kita dengar/lihat tanpa mencari tahu kebenarannya terlebih dahulu. Kita sendiri tahu bahwa banyak artis-artis yang terdiagnosa dengan depresi dan gangguan kesehatan mental lainnya karena banyaknya kebencian yang mereka terima. Bahkan ada juga yang sampai bunuh diri. Sudah seharusnya kita menjaga omongan dan ketikan kita agar tidak menyakiti orang lain. Selain itu, Paus Fransiskus juga mengutuk penyebaran hoax sebagai perbuatan setan. Ia menghimbau agar para jurnalis dan penggiat media sosial menghindari penyebaran berita palsu yang memicu perpecahan dan menyulut kebencian atau opini negatif dari rakyat. Oleh karena itu, sudah seharusnya kita berhati-hati agar selalu melakukan segala sesuatu seperti yang telah dinasihatkan oleh Allah.
Yang diterapkan oleh Cass Dawson menurut sisi keagamaan adalah dia tetap berkata dan bersaksi tentang kebenaran. Dalam Kitab Keluaran 23: 1-3, 6-8 dikatakan tentang masalah “jangan bersaksi dusta tentang sesamamu” yang merupakan perintah Allah yang ke-8. Oleh karena itu membela kebenaran berarti ikut dalam karya Allah menyelamatkan manusia. Dengan demikian membela kebenaran berarti meneladan dan memperjuangkan kehendak Allah dan meneladan Yesus sang Kebenaran.
Dari sisi kewarganegaraan, kita bisa tahu bahwa tersebarnya hoax ini bisa berdampak sangat besar. Mengingat penggunaan media sosial semakin meningkat, informasi pun juga dapat diakses dengan mudah. Banyak sekali berita palsu atau hoax yang belum bisa diverifikasi, namun sudah beredar dengan cepat di tengah masyarakat. Lebih parahnya lagi, dari berita yang sudah beredar, masyarakat tidak mau mencari kebenarannya terlebih dahulu dan langsung mempercayai bahwa berita itu benar adanya. Sehingga timbullah beberapa dampak negatif seperti yang diceritakan pada drama kami, yang pertama karena hoax tersebut, reputasi dari ketiga artis yang diceritakan dalam drama menjadi turun dan tentunya mereka dirugikan dengan pencemaran nama baik. Yang kedua, hoax tersebut menimbulkan opini negatif dari masyarakat. Fitnah yang disebar oleh oknum tidak bertanggung jawab dapat menyulut kebencian dan kemarahan, sehingga masyarakat menjadi memiliki sudut pandang negatif terhadap seseorang atau kelompok. Hal ini menyebabkan ketiga artis tersebut menerima banyak kebencian dan tentunya ini akan berdampak terhadap kesehatan mental dan pembunuhan karakter juga. Bahkan dikatakan bahwa menyebarkan hoax ini tak jauh berbeda dengan peredaran narkotika. Banyak sekali karir artis-artis yang terlibat oleh skandal menjadi jatuh dan mereka menghilang dari dunia entertainment. Padahal seringkali skandal mereka hanyalah hoax yang dibuat oleh pihak yang membenci mereka. Oleh karena itu, masyarakat diharapkan bisa memanfaatkan kemajuan IPTEK ini dengan baik dan benar. Masyarakat sudah seharusnya lebih mengantisipasi dan menyaring berita yang dibaca dan ingin dipercayai, lebih baik lagi masyarakat seharusnya mencari kebenarannya terlebih dahulu agar tidak mudah termakan oleh hoax. Saringlah suatu berita terlebih dahulu sebelum di sharing.
Dari sisi sejarah, kelompok kami memilih Douwes Dekker sebagai inspirasi dari jalan cerita kami karena ia terkenal sebagai seorang jurnalis yang kritis terhadap kebijakan kolonial yang pada saat itu membuat bangsa Indonesia sangat sengsara. Ia menulis berbagai artikel yang pro kaum pribumi, seperti menyindir kalangan pro-koloni serta sikap kebanyakan kaumnya: kaum Indo, yang terlalu memihak pihak Belanda. Pengalaman Douwes Dekker dalam menyaksikan nasib buruh pribumi di perkebunan menggerakkan hatinya. Ia menentang adanya tanam paksa pada saat itu dan mengeluarkan buku berjudul “Max Havelaar”. Dalam buku tersebut, ia melukiskan penderitaan rakyat di Indonesia yang diperlakukan secara tidak manusiawi akibat pelaksanaan sistem tanam paksa. Selain itu, ia juga mencela pemerintah Hindia-Belanda atas segala kebijakannya di Indonesia. Oleh sebab itu, buku karya Douwes Dekker menjadi banyak perbincangan dan mendapat dukungan dari kaum liberal yang menghendaki kebebasan. Meskipun Douwes Dekker beberapa kali terlibat konflik dengan pihak Belanda hingga membuatnya kehilangan pekerjaan, tetapi hal itu tidak menghentikan Douwes Dekker untuk memperjuangkan kebenaran bagi bangsa Indonesia. Ia tetap berpegang pada prinsip untuk membela pribumi atas dasar kemanusiaan.
Seperti perjuangan Douwes Dekker diatas, tokoh jurnalis yang bernama Cass Dawson pada drama kami juga melakukan hal yang serupa. Ia menulis artikel yang menjadi bahan bincangan dunia. Karena skandal yang dialami oleh ketiga artis tersebut, kolom komentar mereka menjadi penuh dengan kebencian dan kecaman. Cass Dawson pun hatinya tergerak dan mau berbuat baik setelah melihat berita yang trending dimana-mana itu. Cass Dawson juga pun berjuang untuk mengungkap kebenaran di tengah-tengah beredarnya hoax dan tentunya artikel tersebut mendapat banyak dukungan dari masyarakat. Cass Dawson sebelumnya juga pernah dibenci oleh banyak orang ( seperti Douwes Dekker yang dibenci oleh kaum Belanda ) namun hal tersebut tidak menghentikannya untuk mengungkap kebenaran demi membantu ketiga artis yang terkena skandal tersebut. Sikap kritis dari Douwes Dekker perlu kita terapkan dalam menghadapi persoalan di era kekinian saat ini, seperti Cass Dawson yang berani dan kritis menentang banyaknya kebencian yang dialami mereka pada saat itu. Padahal ada kemungkinan juga bahwa Cass Dawson akan terlibat dalam kebencian juga, tetapi ia mengabaikan hal itu dan memutuskan untuk melawan segala hoax yang beredar. Alhasil, masyarakat menjadi tahu bahwa sudah seharusnya mereka tidak menghakimi sebuah berita tanpa melihat kebenarannya terlebih dahulu.

For this practical exam drama, our group took the theme of truth. Our drama is titled “Searching for Truth In A World Of Misinformation” which tells about 3 celebrities who are involved in a scandal where they get a lot of hate because of the scandal, even though the news hasn’t been proven to be true. Then there is a journalist named Cass Dawson whose heart is moved to help the public realize that not all information obtained is the truth by writing articles. The article then went viral and the public began to realize and learn to become a better person. Our drama is inspired by many true stories experienced by today’s celebrities, the easy spread of hoaxes, and the struggles of national hero Douwes Dekker.
To complete this examination, our group divides the tasks according to their respective abilities and fields. I (Shannon) and Alicia are in charge as property designers, Renata and Jessica as choreographers, Nathan and Stanley as website admins, William as video editors, Judah and Theophila as translators. But our duties are not limited to our respective divisions. If there are other group members who are in trouble, of course we have to help each other. The process of making this video begins with making a script first. This script is also not only done by 1 person, but we divide the tasks per scene so that the script can be finished quickly. At first we didn’t use the theme of truth, but rather a precious life. However, the script that we used for the precious life theme was not approved by Mr. Widodo. So we decided to rewrite our script. We repeatedly discussed via discord calls to discuss what tasks must be completed, the script progress, how the story goes, the jingle, etc. After days of discussion, we consulted the script with the teacher in charge and when it was already accepted, we immediately started recording. We have done this recording both online and offline. But of course we already did the antigen test and still obeyed the health protocols while filming. In addition, Renata and Jessica have also prepared the jingle and the song used (of course the movements have been consulted too). Meanwhile, Nathan and Stanley have also started to set up the website. We also started practicing gymnastics via zoom and also started recording individual parts, both for introductions to Mandarin and drama. After all the members have recorded and uploaded their individual recordings, then we just have to wait for the editing process from the editor team.
I myself play the role of Ivy in this drama. Ivy is one of the netizens who easily judge someone through a news story without finding out the truth first. In this drama, Ivy expresses hatred towards the three celebs who are hit by a scandal. However, after being told by Krystal that the news was a hoax, she realized her mistake and used the incident as a lesson so that it wouldn’t happen again. The first impression I got when I played Ivy was that I was reminded of the many netizens on social media such as Tiktok, Instagram, and Twitter who easily judge a public figure. I myself see netizens like Ivy as a coward because they only dare to utter hatred behind an account. I also often find netizens like Ivy in the comments column of Korean news portals like pann. Netizens there often comment and criticize (which is not constructive) with hateful tones toward the artists. Even though they have no right to interfere with other people’s business, especially to the point they throw hate.
For the main character named Cass Dawson in our story, I think she is very inspiring for all of us to dare to fight for the truth. Even though Cass knows what risks she will take when publishing an article about the scandalous truth about the 3 celebrities, she still does it because she herself knows that being in injustice, misconceptions, and receiving a lot of hatred from the people feels very miserable.
From the religious side, the message I can get from Ivy is that we shouldn’t judge someone just from the news because we don’t know the truth behind it. It could be that the news is a hoax, and even though the news is true, we have no right to judge them. All we can do is give constructive criticism, not hate. Everyone has their reasons to do something and we have no right to hate their decisions. As the saying goes “don’t judge a book by its cover”, we should not judge a person’s weight or value from something or their outward appearance. Before judging others, we should reflect on ourselves first. That’s what Pope Francis said. The most important thing is to always keep yourself live in God’s truth and not your own truth which is influenced by the truth of the world. Thus, we won’t judge others and also won’t talk about the faults of others because we ourselves know that we are not clean and in accordance with God’s truth. In addition, the Lord Jesus has also spoken about hate speech in the Bible. Hate is a poison that destroys a person from within, producing bitterness that eats away at our hearts and minds. This is why the Bible tells us not to allow “bitter roots” to grow in our hearts (Hebrews 12:15).
Moreover, the value we can take from Ivy and the whole of this drama is that we shouldn’t hate other people just based on what we hear or see without finding out the truth first. We all know that many artists are diagnosed with depression and other mental health disorders because of the amount of hate they receive. Some even commit suicide. We should take care of our speech and typing so it doesn’t hurt other people. In addition, Pope Francis also condemned the spread of hoaxes as an act of the devil. He appealed to journalists and social media activists to avoid spreading fake news that triggers division and sparks hatred or negative opinions from the people. Therefore, we should be careful to always do everything as has been advised by God.
What Cass Dawson applies from the religious perspective is that she continues to speak and testify about the truth. In the Book of Exodus 23:1-3, 6-8 it is said about the issue of “thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor” which is the 8th commandment of God. Therefore, defending the truth means participating in God’s work to save people. Thus defending the truth means imitating and fighting for God’s will and imitating Jesus the Truth.
From the civics side, we can see that the spread of this hoax can have a very big impact. Given the increasing use of social media, information can also be accessed easily. There are so many fake news or hoaxes that cannot be verified, but have spread quickly in the community. Worse yet, from the news that has been spreading, people do not want to find out the truth first and immediately believe that the news is true. So there were several negative impacts which arose, as told in our drama, the first because of the hoax, the reputation of the three artists who were told in the drama decreased and of course they were harmed by defamation. Second, the hoax creates negative opinions from the public. Slander spread by irresponsible persons can ignite hatred and anger, so that people have a negative perspective on a person or group. This causes the three artists to receive a lot of hate and of course this will have an impact on their mental health and character assassination as well. It is even said that spreading hoaxes is not much different from drug trafficking. A lot of the careers of the artists involved in the scandals fell and they disappeared from the entertainment world. Even though often their scandals are just hoaxes made by those who hate them. Therefore, the community is expected to be able to take advantage of this advance in science and technology properly and correctly. The public should anticipate and filter the news they read and want to believe, better yet, the public should seek the truth first so that they are not easily eaten by hoaxes. Filter the news first before sharing.
From the history side, Our group chose Douwes Dekker as the inspiration for our storyline because he was known as a journalist who was critical to the colonial policies which at that time made the Indonesian people very miserable. He wrote various articles that were pro-indigenous, such as satirizing the pro-colonies and the attitude of most of their people: the Indos, who were too sided with the Dutch. Douwes Dekker’s experience in witnessing the plight of indigenous workers on plantations moved his heart. He was against forced cultivation at the time and published a book called “Max Havelaar”. In the book, he describes the suffering of the people in Indonesia who are treated inhumanely due to the implementation of the forced cultivation system. In addition, he also criticized the Dutch East Indies government for all its policies in Indonesia. Therefore, Douwes Dekker’s book has become a lot of discussion and has received support from liberals who want freedom. Although Douwes Dekker was involved in several conflicts with the Dutch, which resulted in him losing his job, this didn’t stop Douwes Dekker from fighting for the truth for the Indonesian people. He still adheres to the principle of defending the indigenous people on the basis of humanity.
Like the struggle of Douwes Dekker above, the journalist character named Cass Dawson in our drama also does the same thing. She wrote articles that became the talk of the world. Due to the scandals experienced by the three artists, their comments column became full of hatred and criticism. Cass Dawson was moved and wanted to do good after seeing the trending news everywhere. Cass Dawson also struggled to reveal the truth amidst the spread of hoaxes and of course the article received a lot of support from the community. Cass Dawson was previously hated by many people (such as Douwes Dekker who was hated by the Dutch) but that did not stop her from revealing the truth to help the three artists affected by the scandal. We need to apply the critical attitude of Douwes Dekker in dealing with problems in the current era, such as Cass Dawson who was brave and critical to deal against the amount of hatred they experienced at that time. Even though it was also possible that Cass Dawson would get involved in the hate as well, she ignored that and decided to fight all the hoaxes. As a result, people knew that they should not judge a news story without seeing the truth first
